It's Halloween

In a few hours it will be hallow'een (southern hemisphere and on one side of the international date line!) so get out your scariest costume and stock up on the lollies.

Yesterday I was looking through my favourite blogs and noticed Rebecca Johnson from Chasing Cottons has released her new pattern named 'Curlicue Crush". This quilt is amazing. I had to purchase the pattern right away and start on my version using Kaffe Fasset fabrics. I did cheat a little because I enlarged the blocks to 10" and appliqued the half circles instead of sewing the curves. I am in a rush to finish this quilt for a birthday present.

Hmmm, better clean those floors. Maybe after I do some more quilting!

When I design a quilt and need a solid to enhance a fabric collection I usually reach for a cream, black, red or white solid. They are easy and popular choices to buy in bulk and go with virtually 99% of all fabrics ranges, particularly solid white, which has become a popular fabric choice for showcasing the new fresh retro / vintage / modern fabrics and designs that are available today. The paler greys are also a popular choice.

These days I am challenging myself to use the wide variety of beautiful solids offered by the designers such as Moda. I love the range of Bella Solids, Basic Grey grunge solids and solids offered with other designer ranges. Turquoises, chocolates, charcoals and retro brights (lime, orange, pinks) are wonderful to bring alive the gorgeous prints in our quilts.

Bella Solid Robins Egg makes the City Weekend tones dazzle

I always have the Bella Solids card available and match solids to Moda designer ranges, picking out the colours and shades that contrast or complement the collection.

Don't limit yourselves to one solid. Try combining many in similar tones for a subtle look or mix them up with contrasting solids that pop out of the project.

So ladies and gentlemen quilters take the challenge and resist the White. I would love to see what you have created.

Get ready for a swap

Soon I will be announcing a limited swap for 1" hexagon flowers.  I have aptly named it

Stay tuned fellow hexa-go-girls and boys.

NCIS and Wednesday Flowers

The new season of NCIS started last night so I made two flowers while I watched. Usually I can multitask but I can see a mistake. Oh well, lucky I taped NCIS so I can watch it again while I unpick and redo my flower.

The tally for this project - Reproduction 2" hexagon flowers is 32.

... And even more parcels

Tuesday again and my group of friends met to sit, chat and stitch.

My beautiful friend Glennis, has nearly completed her reproduction 9 patch and applique quilt. Isn't it gorgeous.

... and more lovely fabric to play with in the mail. The photo does not do these prints justice.

Hexie Duet

I joined a hexie flower swap on the Craft Forum and these are my first two 1" hexies for my swap partner. Her order was for white centres and the same fabric for all the petals. No particular colour preference was requested. That makes it so much more fun.

"Fall into Fall Quilters Blog Giveaway" - and the winner is ..........

Before I announce the winner of the competition I would like to share the story behind the picture.

It was a wet, cold night in Paris and Marlene, Jane D and I decided to hit the town. I had been shopping that day and purchased a bra and undies set from Printemps (French version of Target). Being young and silly, we decided to get a picture of us in front of the Champs Elysees with underwear on our heads.

We waited until the lights turned red and dashed across the pedestrian crossing adorning ourselves with 'hats', bending down low so Jane could capture the architecture in the background and then racing across to the either side before we were mowed down by Citroens. This was all achieved in under one minute.

This picture has remained one of my all time favourites. Such fond memories of Paris in 1989.

A big Thank you to everyone that entered my giveaway. I enjoyed reading through all the comments. The winner of the 2010 'Fall into Fall Giveaway' can be found on the original post.

Thursday and New Goodies in the Mail

A picture is worth a thousand words.

A Thursday Walk through the Garden

It is 6am on the only sunny day we have had for over a week. More rain is expected tomorrow, so I am taking advantage of the sunshine and getting all the washing and mowing done today. The garden was so beautiful this morning, I put on my gum boots and went for a stroll.
